New Work

I've been a very busy bee this weekend. After lots of frustrating attempts at some different pieces last week I finally, accidentally, ended up with a little series of new lolli ladies. I used an old book I had from when I was a younger and a small piece of pretty pink paper. I am going to put them all (but one!) for sale as originals in my shop this week! Very exciting. I am going to put some other work I have done up too. Some originals, some prints. (Click on the picture to see it in more detail!)

I am now very inspired and am off to make more ladies!

bits and pieces

Its been a while since I posted so I thought I should stop procrastinating and get onto it!

First I would like to thank dear Erin over at Design For Mankind who made one of my prints the Print of the Day last week. The print she chose is the one below, A Fanciful Event. She's very over the top and a bit lardi-da!

I am a bit of a magazine addict and have bought a few good ones recently (and a few crap ones if we are being totally honest). One called Preen which has very lovely pictures of pretty girls that have inspired me to get some work done. The latest Selvedge, with a gorgeous bright green Rob Ryan work on the cover, which I have yet to do more than just flick through, but the pictures are all so lovely I always get carried away with ideas everytime I open it. The happiness issue of Yen is just wonderful. I have read it from cover to cover and I want more. Lots of inspiring and exciting ways to find a bit of happiness and most importantly, maintain it. A good read if you've been feeling a bit down in the dumps with all of this gloomy weather we've had in Sydney! Also there is a lovely article on Zooey Deschanel who I think is so gorgeous! She has some music coming out that she and another guy made which is very exciting. I haven't heard any of it yet so I will keep you posted on that!

Not much else to report. I am working on some new things. Some more collages and some other little pieces that I think will be nice as little originals. More on that later!

Oh...and another thing...

I have started to stitch into my drawings. This is the first one without any collage and its very simple at the moment. The only thing I had when the idea struck me was some cotton strong and I just HAD to do something then! I have ideas of girls in swishy ballerina-like skirts. Very much inspired by Degas and lots of fashion references that escape my mind now! I will post a blog soon on some of these inspirations. I am working on some of these ideas, using my Grandmother's old cotton threads and maybe some of her silk ribbons (for embroidery) if I can bring myself to use them! (Again, my scan is grubby but so is this drawing. I was so excited about it when I was making it that I didn't take too much care. As it was just a test I figure its ok just once!)

New Work

Here are some pictures of some work I have been up to over the past few weeks. I'm still very much into my Bathing Ladies, with lots of bright swimming costumes and caps. There is just something about them that makes me want to draw them and collage little outfits. (You will have to excuse some of the scans if they are bit dusty! I need to get some special cleaner for it very soon!)
I've posted this one previously but here is a proper picture of it. She is my favourite of all my ladies so far.

These are new little pair I made. Winter and Summer.

A quick sketch.

The scan on this one is not the best, it has come out a bit darker than I would have liked, but you get the idea. I did lots of sketches and work on this one and I am finally happy with her. She's got a bit of attitude going on.

These are two new little ones I have done, but I was without my trusty watercolour paints and had to settle for watercolour pencil. I used to love them but since I got back into using th paints, its just not as good! Not for their skin anyway. The first one is a Bathing Baby, she is a young one! I've done a few other quick ones similar to her recently so maybe it will turn into a new series somewhere down the line.

Happy Tuesday!

Drum roll please...

My Etsy shop will be opening over the weekend! I am very excited and hope people like what I am putting out there. I have everything ready to go, I just to upload everything and hope for the best. I will be so happy to finally actually get it set up so that I can start doing some more artworks. I have so many ideas and am obssessed still with my bathing ladies! I have also ordered some supplies to make some cute little original pieces for the shop! They should be available over the coming weeks!

A weekend away...

Over the past weekend, my boyfriend and I went down to Boorowa, which is near Yass in South West NSW. His family friend owns about 800acres of land and we stayed on the property there, just us. The farm hands were there during the day, which was nice as they told us a few places on the property to visit and took us to some newly acquired land and we got to see them sowing. It was quite a weekend. We just drove around the paddocks, taking pictures and then at night relaxed by an open fire.

The cows were very lazy! They just sat around and didn't do much. What a life!

Taken with a fish-eye lens on top of the highest hill we could get to. There were amazing clouds that afternoon. We sat and watched them move over the rolling hills for little while after this.
This is a lovely little Merino, which we named Betty. She and her friend, Beryl, seemed to have lost of their friends and were sitting in a paddock by themselves for the whole weekend. She's very cute!

Back in Sydney, I have just been working and trying to get motivated to get my shop up and running. I have all the photos, I just need to find some words! I am not 100% happy with the photos but I really want to get it up and running and I can slowly change the pictures too. I'm not sure if thats what I want to do yet. I think I might have to sleep on it.
